Clarke hoping for another summer coup

Boss chasing summer signing to equal success of Foster

STEVE Clarke hopes the club can this year land another eye-catching summer signing who makes as big an impact as Ben Foster has this season.

The Baggies won the race to snap up the goalkeeper last June as he converted a loan move from Blues into a permanent deal.

And Clarke is looking to pull off a similar coup ahead of the 2013/14 campaign.

“Every summer we’d like to think we can get a marquee signing,” said the Albion boss.

“Last summer it was Ben.

“He was a big signing for the club last year and this year we have to go out and try and find someone else who can come in and do as good a job as Ben has.

“I’m not talking about a goalkeeper – I’m talking about a player in any position, whichever one we target as the one where the marquee signing will be.”

He added: “What the club do and did even before my time here is to spend what money they spend wisely and bring in players that will complement the group that is already here.

“It’s a case of building slowly.

“It’s not as if we’re going to go out and sign five, six or seven players for big money to make us better.

“We’re not going to do that, as a club we don’t do that.”
