Albion to pay tribute to kitman Dave

Club to honour loyal servant with minute's applause at Newcastle game

ALBION will pay tribute to long-serving kitman Dave Matthews at Saturday’s home game against Newcastle (ko 3pm).

Dave passed away during Sunday night, aged 67, and the club will honour him with a minute’s applause shortly before kick-off.

The players, many of whom rubbed shoulders with Dave before his retirement last May, will also wear black armbands during the game.

The flags at The Hawthorns will also fly at half-mast on the day of Dave’s funeral, with a date yet to be confirmed.

Sporting & Technical Director (Designate) Richard Garlick said: “Dave gave the club incredible service and it is only fitting that we honour him in this manner.

“During his 51 years here, Dave got to know so many Albion supporters and the club will unite on Saturday to pay our respects.”
