Sawyers show seals point for Baggies

ALBION twice battled back to earn a point in this afternoon’s Barclays Under-21 Premier League match-up at the club’s training ground.

Second-half strikes from Kemar Roofe and Romaine Sawyers earned the hosts a draw after twice trailing the visitors.

The Baggies came agonisingly close to taking the lead themselves on 11 when Roofe’s free-kick went inches wide of Seb Usai’s left-hand post.

Albion’s midfield was disrupted on 21 when Sam Mantom, who suffered a bloody nose inside the first minute, was replaced by Mani O’Sullivan.

Seven minutes later, the Baggies fell behind when Donervorn Daniels headed into his own net from Josh Morris’ free-kick.

Albion came close to equalising in the 36th minute as Sawyers’ right-footed effort struck the post from ten yards.

David Oldfield’s men undeservedly trailed at the break but were level within 45 seconds of the restart as Roofe tucked home Adil Nabi’s cross after more tidy work from Sawyers.

Rovers were ahead again on 58 courtesy of a left-foot wonder-strike from Spanish midfielder Hugo Fernandez Molina.

But Sawyers capped off a fine display by netting the Baggies’ equaliser with nine minutes remaining. The 20-year-old slotted home a right-footed effort from Saido Berahino’s excellent through-ball.
