Stockport 1 Albion 4

Berahino double and goals from Mantom and Thorne seal development squad win

DAVID Oldfield could reflect on a good night’s work after his young Albion XI romped to a 4-1 victory at Stockport.

Sam Mantom and Saido Berahino gave the Baggies a two-goal half-time cushion.

The Conference Premier outfit pulled a goal back through Daniel O’Donnell before Berahino’s second and a George Thorne goal sealed the win.

The development squad were boosted at Edgeley Park by the return of seven players who have been involved this summer in squads for senior pre-season fixtures.

New signing Yassine El Ghanassy also got 80 minutes under his belt as his builds up his match fitness ahead of the Barclays Premier League campaign.

Development/reserves coach Oldfield said: “We had some added quality tonight with several of the older young players, as it were, coming back into the group.

“They all did well. Their application was good, they passed the ball well and were clinical in their finishing against a Stockport team that tried to play and had some possession.

“But the lads deserved their victory tonight. This was my first time seeing Yassine in action and he did some very good things going forward.”
