Under-18s clinch victory at Everton

Shan's men get off to winning start

ALBION Under-18s secured a 1-0 victory at Everton in their opening Professional Development League One fixture on Saturday.

Trialist Nathan Oduwa converted Isaiah Brown’s inch-perfect throughball to put the Baggies ahead after only nine minutes.

And lead professional development coach James Shan was impressed with his side’s performance.

“We have a vision that requires our lads to dominate possession, play football and very, very creative and they did that on Saturday.

“We also want to be organised when we don’t have the ball and that seems to be coming together nicely as well.

“Hopefully the boys can maintain that level of performance and even improve on it.

“It’s a great start and in the first half we were very dominant in terms of possession.

“We’ve said all along that we are going to try and stick to the club’s DNA in terms of the way we play.

“It was a great clean sheet also and I’m particularly pleased for Alex Palmer who played only his second game for us.”

ALBION: Palmer; Atkinson, Smart, Pace, Hawkins; C Jones, I Brown (S Nabi 83), Birch, A Jones, Oduwa (Ambalu 72), Barrow. Subs not used: McCalla, Lewis, Greenidge.
