Boss sure defender will continue giving 100 per cent
STEVE Clarke has no doubts Jonas Olsson will continue giving 100 per cent to the club regardless of whether he commits to a new Albion deal. The Baggies are in negotiations with the Swedish international over a new contract, with his current deal running out next summer.
But whatever happens, Clarke insists Olsson's commitment to the Baggies cannot be questioned.
And he has been delighted with his two opening performances in the 3-0 win over Liverpool and 1-1 draw at Spurs – even handing him the captain’s armband in Chris Brunt’s absence.
“Jonas has a year left on his contract and the club are still negotiating with him," said Clarke.
“He can choose to sign a new one, which we will offer him and the club are discussing now, or he can choose to turn it down.
“That’s his entitlement and the position he has put himself in.
“We respect that – and I think he respects our stance as well.
“He’s a top professional.
“You see the way he performs on the pitch.
“He trains well every day and has played ever so well in the two matches.
“I’ve got no worries about Jonas.
“If he chooses to run his contract down, I’ve got no worries about him performing for West Bromwich Albion week in, week out – absolutely none.”
