West Bromwich Albion will be targeting a third win on the bounce when Hull City visit The Hawthorns on Saturday afternoon (ko 3pm).

Carlos Corberán's side have picked up consecutive 2-0 triumphs over QPR and Coventry City, results which mean they head into the weekend's encounter sat inside the top six of the Sky Bet Championship.

Visitors Hull City aren't far behind the Baggies. Only goal difference keeps them outside the play-off positions having collected the same number of points as Albion from their first 14 games (23).

The Tigers have also won their last two matches, keeping clean sheets in the process against Birmingham City and Preston North End.

The opponents

The Tigers have made an eye-catching start to the 2023/24 campaign and are sat just outside the play-off positions on goal difference going into matchweek 15 in the Sky Bet Championship.

Hull have collected 23 points from 14 their games, winning six, drawing five and losing just three.

They head to The Hawthorns having claimed consecutive victories and consecutive clean sheets in fixtures away at Birmingham City (2-0) and at home to Bristol City (1-0).

Saturday's guests have earned a number of really impressive results so far this term, most notably a 1-0 triumph at runaway leaders Leicester City.

Former player Liam Rosenior is the boss. He'll celebrate his one-year anniversary the day before the Tigers come to town and boasts a strong record of just 11 defeats from his 44 matches in charge.

Rosenior, who also represented Fulham, Reading, Ipswich and Brighton, made over 150 appearances for Hull between 2010 and 2015. The 39-year-old is a popular figure at the MKM Stadium and has made the locals dream of a return to the top flight for the first time since 2017.

The Baggies beat Saturday's visitors 5-2 at The Hawthorns last season in the middle of August.

Callum Elder (OG), John Swift, Darnell Furlong, Karlan Grant and Dara O'Shea were all on target for the hosts, with Colombian striker Oscar Estupinan bagging a brace for the Tigers.

Albion have the opportunity to record an eighth successive home victory over the Tigers this weekend.

The Baggies have won all of the last seven across three separate competitions - Premier League, Sky Bet Championship and Capital One Cup.

Albion have scored a total of 20 goals in those seven fixtures, and at least three in five of those encounters.

The last Tigers triumph in B71 was a 3-0 success in the Premier League in October 2008. Kamil Zayatte, Geovanni and Marlon King were the goalscorers that afternoon.

Ticket details

Tickets are on general sale for Albion’s Sky Bet Championship fixture against Hull City.

Seats are priced £28 adults, £23 seniors, £17 for supporters aged 20-25, £12 for supporters aged 17-19 and just £5 under-17s.

An adult disabled supporter ticket is priced £18 and includes free access for a personal assistant.

Fan Zone

Supporters of both the Baggies and Hull City with a valid match ticket can enjoy all of the pre-match entertainment for free in the Fan Zone from midday onwards on Saturday.

Fans can enjoy a wide range of fun activities including live music from the DJ booth, spot prizes and photo opportunities with Baggie Bird.

Club legend Bob Taylor will be up on stage from 2pm, with live football also being shown on the big screen - SPFL champions Celtic taking on Ross County at the Global Energy Stadium at 12.30pm.

In addition, cadets from 481 (West Bromwich) squadron will be in the Fan Zone selling poppies on behalf of the Royal British Legion.

A strong second-half display helped Albion cruise to victory over Hull City at The Hawthorns on Saturday afternoon.

Jed Wallace saw his early opener cancelled out by Lewie Coyle’s driven strike before the interval, but an influential Grady Diangana would help Carlos Corberán’s men over the line as he created for Matt Phillips and Semi Ajayi to find the net and seal a third straight Sky Bet Championship victory.

Early pressure did the trick for the Baggies when, on 14 minutes, their skipper stepped up to give the hosts an important advantage.

Hull’s attempts to play out from defence back-fired as Jean Michael Seri’s loose pass was intercepted by Wallace - who composed himself before slotting into the bottom corner to make it 1-0.

Diangana tried to double the lead just minutes later, but his powerful effort was blocked inside the box. From there, the visitors enjoyed a spell of the ball which eventually led to the equaliser.

Scott Twine’s cross found the run of opposition captain Coyle and, after cutting in from the right, the full-back volleyed in to level matters before the break.

City saw plenty of possession during the early knockings of the second 45, although Albion very nearly combined to score a fine team goal to edge them back ahead.

It started when their DR Congo international brought the ball down out of the sky expertly before setting Phillips through down the centre. However, the conditions took the ball away from the Baggies’ No.10, allowing Hull to scramble clear.

Having failed to score from good build-up play during the opening exchanges of the second 45, Corberán’s men made absolutely sure they got back in front with a fine, flowing move.

Escaping the Tigers’ press in the centre, a clever turn from Wallace meant he set Diangana bursting down the right flank. The winger steadied himself with City on the retreat to find Phillips inside the area, and he used his time well to guide a well-placed finish into the bottom corner.

At 2-1, Liam Rosenior’s team attempted to pen Albion in their own half. Still, the home team found a way past their Yorkshire counterparts to create a two-goal difference between the sides - with Diangana at the heart of things again.

Clever feet forged a way into the box for the Baggies attacker and after some hard work to set the visitors on the back foot, he had the awareness to find Ajayi - whose clever run was rewarded when he connected with Grady’s pass to force the ball home for a third of the afternoon.

Brandon Thomas-Asante nearly added further shine on an impressive win when his effort has fumbled away by City shot-stopper Ryan Allsop, but an energetic second-half display proved to be the difference for Corberán's men, who secured back-to-back home wins on a wet and windy day in B71.
