West Bromwich Albion are back at The Hawthorns for the first time in over two weeks on Saturday afternoon, hosting mid-table Bristol City in their 38th Sky Bet Championship fixture of the season (ko 3pm).

The Baggies claimed a terrific 4-1 triumph at Huddersfield Town in their most recent encounter, with Mikey Johnston (2), Kyle Bartley and Okay Yokuslu all on target.

Visitors Bristol City also head into the game on the back of three points. The Robins beat Swansea City 1-0 at Ashton Gate last Sunday thanks to Rob Dickie's goal inside the final 17 minutes.

The reverse fixture in the West Country back in September ended in a goalless draw.

The opponents

Bristol City head to The Hawthorns nine points clear of the drop zone and 11 points adrift of the play-off places, sat 13th in the standings.

Only brave individuals would bet on the Robins making the top six or falling into the bottom three at this stage of the 2023/24 campaign, with Saturday's guests now targeting a top-half finish in the second tier - something which they haven't achieved since 2019/20.

The West Country outfit ended a disappointing run of four straight defeats by beating Swansea City 1-0 at home last Sunday.

On their travels, City have only won one of their last eight in all competitions, suffering narrow back-to-back defeats at Sheffield Wednesday and Ipswich Town.

Former MK Dons and Oxford United boss Liam Manning is the man in charge. He was appointed in November 2023 following the departure of Nigel Pearson. He's got a record of eight wins, eight draws and ten defeats from his 26 competitive matches in the dugout.

Fan Zone

The Fan Zone will be open from midday for both West Bromwich Albion and Bristol City supporters in possession of a match ticket on Saturday.

A wide variety of entertainment will be on offer, including music, inflatable games for the kids to enjoy, a host of food and drink options, several spot prizes to be won and Baggie Bird on hand for those all-important selfies.

The Sky Bet Championship clash between rivals Cardiff City and Swansea City will also be shown live on the big screen.

Supporters are encouraged to head over before kick-off to check everything out and soak up the pre-match atmosphere!

Albion extended their unbeaten run to six games with a 2-0 win against Bristol City on Saturday afternoon.

Goals either side of half-time by Tom Fellows and Jed Wallace were the difference, ensuring the Baggies go into the international break in good spirits.

Carlos Corberán’s men remain fifth in the Sky Bet Championship table and have eight more fixtures left when they return from the two-week pause.

The head coach made three changes following last week’s 4-1 triumph over Huddersfield, bringing in Erik Pieters, Conor Townsend and Tom Fellows.

It was a reasonably quite first period at The Hawthorns, though Albion did have Alex Palmer to thank for them not going behind midway through the half - the goalkeeper brilliantly denying Tommy Conway’s finish.

But just as the teams looked set to go in level at the break, the Baggies broke the deadlock. Superb, quick play around the edge of the area eventually saw it fall to Fellows, who converted a low strike past Max O’Leary - his fifth goal in blue and white.

And the hosts doubled that advantage five minutes after the interval. Some more eye-catching link-up, this time involving Mikey Johnston and Townsend, ensured Wallace only needed to tap home for 2-0.

City attempted a comeback late on as Cameron Pring and Mark Sykes sliced opportunities wide, and Palmer also needed to keep out a long-range Taylor Gardner-Hickman effort.

Corberán introduced Yann M’Vila from the bench - his first appearance since signing last month - and his side managed to see out the final stages despite further City pressure, claiming a clean sheet as well as three important points.
