Leicester City vs West Bromwich Albion

West Bromwich Albion face Sky Bet Championship title-chasing Leicester City at King Power Stadium on Saturday lunchtime (ko 12.30pm).

The Baggies' ten-game unbeaten run came to an end after a narrow 1-0 defeat against Sunderland last weekend in B71.

Hosts Leicester City, meanwhile, were also beaten by a single goal, losing away at relegation-threatened Plymouth Argyle on Friday night.

The Foxes stole all three points right at the death in the reverse Hawthorns fixture in December, with Harry Winks slotting into an empty net to secure a late 2-1 victory in the West Midlands.

The opponents

Leicester started this campaign brightly following relegation from the Premier League, and looked like they would comfortably achieve an instant top flight return when they were 13 points clear of third at the midway point.

But a home defeat to Middlesbrough in February was the catalyst for a tricky run, with the Foxes having picked up 10 points from their last 10 matches since that loss.

It's now incredibly tight as four teams try and seal automatic promotion, though things are still in the Foxes' hands.

Enzo Maresca's side had two players named in the Championship's EFL Team of the Season (Goalkeeper Mads Hermansen & midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall) earlier in the week, and will be hoping for further success in the coming month.

One to remember

The Baggies defeated the Foxes 2-1 in a Championship clash in the East Midlands back in November 2009.

First-half strikes from Chilean Gonzalo Jara and Scot Graham Dorrans put Albion in a strong position.

Bruno Berner pulled one back in the final minute for the hosts, however, that proved to be nothing more than a consolation as the visitors returned to the West Midlands triumphant.

Did you know?

Albion are heading to King Power Stadium for the first time since April 22, 2021 on Saturday.

The Baggies lost that particular Premier League fixture 3-0 following efforts from Jamie Vardy, Jonny Evans and Kelechi Iheanacho.

However, that was the only defeat any Albion team in any competition has lost at either King Power Stadium, or their former home Filbert Street, in their last 10 visits to the Foxes.

The Baggies have won six and drawn three, with four of those six triumphs ending 2-1.

Albion were beaten 2-1 by Leicester City in the Sky Bet Championship on Saturday afternoon.

The Foxes claimed all three points via Wilfred Ndidi’s first-half goal and a second period Jamie Vardy header at the King Power Stadium, despite Jed Wallace’s consolation.

Carlos Corberán’s men return to action next weekend with a trip to Sheffield Wednesday.

The visitors started brightly and created plenty of early opportunities. Within two minutes Okay Yokuslu fired over after being gifted possession inside the area - before Mikey Johnston saw a smart finish cleared off the line following excellent Jed Wallace play.

Johnston threatened twice more, seeing one shot saved and another go over, but it was actually down the other end where the scoring would begin. Alex Palmer pushed away Vardy’s initial flick, however Ndidi managed to lift a high finish home and give the table-toppers the lead.

Vardy had a chance to double their advantage ahead of half-time, too, winning a penalty and stepping up to take it, yet only striking the post.

Albion came back out strongly and nearly netted when Yann M’Vila had a low effort scrambled away and Diangana, twice, watched his rebounds blocked by the Leicester defence.

They went even closer moments later from the resulting corner, Bartley’s header hitting the crossbar. Diangana then tapped inches past the post in the midst of a superb attacking spell.

They were made to pay for those misses, though, with 25 minutes to go. Leicester doubled their tally as Vardy nodded in, making it 2-0.

Albion did manage to get one back after a sublime ball from Kipre found the skipper through on goal, who this time made no mistake to find the far corner and get the hosts sweating.

The Baggies piled on the pressure in hopes of finding a deserved leveller, with John Swift twice coming close to finding the back of the net, but the Foxes held out to claim a fortuitous victory.
