West Bromwich Albion welcome Hull City to The Hawthorns on Saturday afternoon for the club's fifth Sky Bet Championship fixture of the campaign (ko 3pm).

The Baggies will be determined to pick up their first league victory having been held to three frustrating draws, while also falling to defeat at Blackburn Rovers.

Hull City on the other hand have made an impressive start to the season, picking up two victories and two draws from their four matches played.

The Tigers can boast positive results against two of the three recently-relegated teams in their most recent matches, winning 2-1 at home to Norwich City and drawing 1-1 at Burnley.

Hull City head for The Hawthorns in fine early-season form.

The Tigers remain unbeaten despite four challenging opening games and sit towards the top end of the Sky Bet Championship table with eight points to their name.

Shota Arveladze's men have faced recently-relegated Burnley and Norwich City in their last two matches and taken an eye-catching four points, proving they're capable of finishing much higher up the division this time around following their 19th-placed positioning last term.

Hull have strengthened their squad over the summer with the arrivals of Türkiye international Ozan Tufan, Colombia international Oscar Estupinan, former Fulham midfielder Jean Michel Seri and ex-Nottingham Forest defender Tobias Figueiredo to name a few.

Boss Arveladze is a legend in his home nation of Georgia and represented both Rangers and Ajax among others in his playing career. He was appointed in January earlier this year and will be keen to push his group towards a top-half, or even higher, finish in 2022/23.

The Baggies earned three crucial Sky Bet Championship points against Hull City on the way to winning promotion to the Premier League in 2019/20.

Charlie Austin, Ahmed Hegazi, Kamil Grosicki and Grady Diangana were all on target in a 4-2 win at The Hawthorns in July 2020.

One for the stattos

Jake Livermore could make his 200th West Bromwich Albion appearance against his former employers on Saturday afternoon.

The Baggies skipper made the switch from Hull to The Hawthorns in January 2017 having spent three-and-a-half years with the Tigers previously.

Albion emphatically beat Hull City 5-2 at The Hawthorns

Albion beat Hull 5-2 at The Hawthorns to emphatically claim their first league win of the season on Saturday afternoon.

A first-half own-goal gave the Baggies a platform to go on and net four times after the interval, with superb strikes from John Swift and Darnell Furlong, as well as Karlan Grant’s spot kick and another OG, helping them claim all three points despite Oscar Estupinan’s consolations.

The result ensures Steve Bruce’s men remain unbeaten in B71 this campaign, having claimed two wins and two draws across all competitions.

Next up they travel to Derby County in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday evening.

The manager made one change to his starting line-up, bringing Jayson Molumby in for Jake Livermore and naming Academy graduate Dara O’Shea as captain for the day.

Hull started the game well - David Button having to save Ozan Tufan’s volley and also fantastically push an Estupina effort on to the crossbar.

However, the hosts dominated proceedings more and more as the half progressed and, shortly after Grant’s venomous strike was well-blocked, they took the lead. With 38 minutes on the clock, the impressive Furlong sent a brilliant ball across the box for a Tigers defender to divert in and hand Albion a one-goal advantage going into half-time.

The Baggies doubled their tally following the break through a sumptuous Swift finish, the attacking midfielder guiding a beauty into the bottom corner for his first competitive Hawthorns goal.

But goal of the match undoubtedly should go to Furlong, who rifled home a stunner from outside the area – much to the delight of the 22,000 supporters in attendance.

There was time for Grant to get in on the action, too, when he confidently converted a penalty won by Conor Townsend.

Hull’s Estupinan pulled one back with 12 minutes remaining, yet Albion managed to find a fifth – a mixture of O’Shea and a Hull player sending the ball into the Brummie Road End net.

Estupinan grabbed a second for City in the final seconds, but ultimately it was the Baggies celebrating a fantastic victory come full-time.
