Albion’s Under-18s returned to winning ways after overcoming Tottenham Hotspur in a seven-goal thriller on Saturday afternoon.

Reyes Cleary continued his good start to the U18 Premier League season by giving the young Baggies the lead after 13 minutes. But Spurs weren’t behind for long and Rio Kyeretamen made sure of that when he equalised nine minutes later.

However, after providing Peter Gilbert’s side with their first of the afternoon, Fenton Heard got himself on the scoresheet to give Albion’s youngsters an important 2-1 lead at the interval.

Going in with the advantage gave the hosts visible confidence, and they took full advantage of being on the right side of the scoreline when towering defender Mark Chidi capitalised on a lapse of concentration from Tottenham’s defence to extend the Baggies’ lead.

It didn’t last long, though, with Jamie Donley reducing the deficit to just one goal for the visitors two minutes later as the north London outfit chased an equaliser.

Unfortunately for them, in-form attacker Cleary was alert in the closing stages to net his second of the game and although a stoppage-time response from Jaden Williams put Gilbert’s men under pressure late on, they held out to secure a much-needed three points.

Albion: Hollingshead; Hall, Phillips, Chidi; Williams, Lamb, Richards, Shaw (Oliver 68); Heard, Cleary, Love (Okoka 77).

Substitutes: Hudd, Ngoma, Hurlock.
