'There's plenty more to come' | Siobhan Hodgetts-Still & Amya Hammond-McLean on Stourbridge win

Albion Women Manager Siobhan Hodgetts-Still believes her side’s FAWNL Cup win over Stourbridge was a “convincing” one.

The Baggies eased to a 4-0 victory in their Group N opener thanks to Amya Hammond-McLean's brace, Simran Jhamat’s strike and an own goal.

The positive result leaves Albion at the top of their pool after their first match, with Leafield Athletic set to play Leicester City U21s on Thursday evening.

“I'm really happy,” Hodgetts-Still said. “It was a convincing win. I thought we dominated the game throughout, in tough conditions.

“I thought the pitch wasn't great, but we still tried to play and some great patterns came out. Scoring four goals was brilliant too.

“I’m really happy for Amya (Hammond-McLean). It was her first start and she's scored two goals, although she'll be claiming a hat-trick. She was brilliant.

“We did make a few changes to the team and I was pleased to see everyone play well.

“There were some standout performances. I think the players out there stepped up today. I thought they did really well.

“I thought Asiah (Janny) got a start and I thought she did well. I thought Naomi Sharp was very good at right-back and Ruby Heselden obviously at centre-back - she was very comfortable.

“It was a solid performance for those guys and 90 minutes in the legs here can only be a good thing.”

Albion Women celebrate.

Hammond-McLean’s electric performance in Worcestershire will leave Hodgetts-Still with plenty of decisions to make ahead of this weekend’s clash against Hull City, and the forward was delighted to pick up her first Baggies goals.

“I’m going to have to [claim the second goal], aren’t I,” Hammond-McLean joked. “Obviously scoring the goals was nice, and I feel like the team had a good performance. I enjoyed it.

“We were pretty dominant, we had lots of possession of the ball, the pitch wasn’t too great but we dealt with that as a team. It was a really good performance.

“I think there’s plenty more to come. Hopefully I can get some more goals, more assists and help us to more wins too. I’m taking loads of confidence from that performance into Hull on Sunday.”

Albion travel to the The Versa Sportswear Stadium to face the Tigresses on Sunday, August 24, with hopes of continuing their unbeaten start to the campaign.
