Albion Women Manager Siobhan Hodgetts-Still says her side had to be “patient” to beat Cambridge United in the second round of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup.

The Baggies scored two second-half goals through Ellie May and Amya Hammond-McLean to ensure their progression in the competition.

The U’s proved a stern test at the Alexander Stadium, but the boss says it was important to remain calm and collected in order to progress.

Hodgetts-Still said: “I’m delighted with the win and that we’re through to the next round. We dominated the game and they didn’t really cause us too many threats.

“Cambridge made things very difficult for us and we scored two well-worked goals. I’m really happy with the performance.

“We’d been working on facing a low-block in training. Both wide players held the width really well and we got into some great areas – we just need to improve that final ball and fix those passages.

“Ellie (May) took her goal really well and Phoebe (Warner)’s run was great for the second towards the end. It was two well-worked goal and we’re just glad to get through to the next round.

“We spoke at half-time about being patient and I thought we were exactly that in the second half. It was very transitional towards the end because Cambridge were looking for a goal and we had several chances on the counter.

“We wanted to stay positive and work on getting that goal, and it eventually came for us. We’re really glad about how patient we were.

“We must take confidence from this game. We’re unbeaten in November now, we’ll take that confidence into next week and look ahead to Halifax.”

Creative midfielder Monique Robinson was pleased to see her side advance to the next round of the tournament and says the Baggies’ unbeaten month of November has fuelled their confidence.

“The FA Cup is the biggest competition.” Robinson said. “It’s amazing, we’re playing well at the moment and we just want to progress as far as we can.

“We’re unbeaten in November, we want to get the points and just keep that going. We had the majority of possession and Cambridge sat in a low block, fair play to them, they did well.

“We took our chances and created a lot – we got over the line and we’re happy to get to the next round. The switch of play was always on for us, we created a lot of two-vs-ones and we didn’t get on the end of them at the start but eventually got our rewards.”

Albion are next in action on Sunday, November 30, when they host Halifax in the FA WNL Northern Premier.
