Ryan Mason | 'We gifted QPR goals'

Ryan Mason is interviewed by WBA after Albion's defeat to QPR

Ryan Mason admitted Albion "gifted" QPR goals at MATRADE Loftus Road on Saturday afternoon.

The Baggies suffered a 3-1 Sky Bet Championship defeat down in the capital city, with Jonathan Varane heading in the opener before Rumarn Burrell bagged a second-half brace.

Aune Heggebø scored his sixth goal in five games to make it 2-1, but Burrell's second three minutes from time ended Albion's hopes of leaving London with a share of the spoils.

The boss was extremely disappointed with the manner in which his team conceded.

Ryan said: "Our form and the current run we’re on away from home is not good enough.

"It’s far from good enough. It’s really disappointing.

"We gifted them goals today. At this level, it’s impossible to pick up results if you’re gifting the opposition goals.

"The formula at the moment away from home, it’s certainly not there.

"Goals change games and the time of their first had an impact. You saw that in the second half. We came out and we had some good opportunities to score, but then we’ve made a mistake, which happens, and we get punished for it.

"We came back into it, showed a bit of fight and actually played some really good football. We got it back to 2-1 and the feeling was that we had a lot of opportunities to put the ball in the box. We had other attempts too, but the third goal is really poor from our side.

"At this level, or at any level, you can’t gift the opposition, especially away from home. You have to work so hard, you have to fight and you have to compete. At the moment, it’s certainly not okay.

"When Aune Heggebø scored, the feeling was that we could get back into it and take something away. You could feel that in the stadium.

"We played well and showed bravery, personality and quality as well. But, as I say, moments and goals change games and at 2-1, to give them a third like we did, it’s not good enough. I know it’s not good enough. It’s well below the standards that we try and set at this football club.

"We had an incredible away support here today. They travelled, sold the place out and they brought the energy to support the players. Our away form for a number of weeks now hasn’t been good enough."
