Defender Lucy Day hopes to continue her positive form as she makes her loan move to the Albion permanent this summer.
The 18-year-old excelled on loan at the Baggies last season and will look to reach her full potential during her extended stay in B71.
Lucy’s solid grounding came at fellow Midlands club Birmingham City, where she began her academy career.
The defender rose through the age groups and gained early recognition with England’s youth teams, when she was called up for the Under-17 team by former Birmingham City player Remi Allen, who helped nurture her talent on the international stage.
And not only did Day feature in the young Lionesses’ European Championship Qualifying, but she also impressed coaching staff with her leadership capabilities and captained the side as they vied for a place at the Euros.
The centre-half pitted herself against the likes of the Netherlands, Spain and Denmark while a part of various camps in 2024 and 2025.
Alongside those continental showings, Lucy continued her domestic promise within Birmingham City’s PGA side, where she trained full-time.
Day lifted her first piece of academy silverware in 2025, as the Blues beat Leicester City 4-3 in the PGA Cup final. She played the full 90 minutes, and former Baggie Millie Pullen scored a brace - ensuring they won the country’s academy crown for that season.
That same year, after continuing her steady progress within Birmingham’s academy set-up, the time for a senior loan soon came for Lucy.
Baggies boss Siobhan Hodgetts-Still was to hand her that opportunity in November of 2025, as the defender penned dual-registration terms in B71, allowing her to alternate between PGA matches and league fixtures at her loan clubs.
Day’s start to life in navy-blue-and-white couldn’t have gone much better, either, as her new club romped to a 3-1 victory on her first-team debut.
The feisty encounter was a baptism by fire for Lucy in senior football, but she came out with a Player of the Match performance and scored the Albion opener.
The youngster found further scoring form throughout her loan spell in B71 as she leapt higher than anyone else to meet a corner and notch in the 2-1 win over Hull City Ladies.
Her senior switch also brought further international recognition, as she changed allegiances from England to Wales. After being called up for The Dragons’ Under-19 squad for their European Qualifiers, Day played against Switzerland, Latvia and beat England as they retained their League A status in April.
But arguably the highlight was her performance at The Hawthorns, including in another win over Sporting Khalsa, where Lucy continued her set-piece prowess to score a brace as they won 6-0 in front of a buoyant crowd.
And it’s those kinds of performances that Day will hope to replicate as she makes her return to the Shrine.
