Attacking midfielder Abbey Jones arrives at The Hawthorns with plenty of intrigue.

The 23-year-old boasts appearances in WSL2 and for a host of Professional Game Academies (PGA), and will hope to live up to her early promise as she joins the Albion Women ranks ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.

Born in Nottingham, Abbey’s solid grounding in the game came across academy football in the Midlands.

She shone firstly for East Midlands outfit Derby County, who picked her up for her first stint throughout their youth age groups, and it was there Jones was capped for England at youth level.

The midfielder was recognised by the Young Lionesses at under-15, under-16 and under-18 level, as she caught the eye of national scouts with her dribbling ability.

Jones left the Ewe Rams in search of PGA experience, and she soon found it as she swapped the East Midlands for the West in joining Birmingham City, where regular football came with their U21 team.

It was a short stay at the Blues, though, as she switched across the second city to link up with Aston Villa, and it was there she managed to complete her BTEC programme and continue to gain valuable minutes, sometimes as captain, within an academy setting.

Abbey would soon search for pastures new, and found them stateside, when she moved to the University of Connecticut to study Sports Coaching & Exercise.

Her degree didn’t come without the added football incentive, though, as she turned out for the university’s football team - UCONN.

She spent four successful years in the Big Eastern Conference, honing her skills and becoming a prolific playmaker. Jones was also given the Huskies’ armband throughout her senior year.

Those academy and experiences in America led her back to England after her studies, Abbey joined WSL2 team Durham, where she became an integral member of their squad in the second tier.

The Blues’ No.27 featured 14 times in 2025/26 and joins the Baggies with hopes of accelerating their progress in the FAWNL Northern Premier this term.
