Albion are delighted to confirm Jason Roberts has been appointed a Non-Executive Director of the club’s board.

Roberts, who is Chief Football Development Officer at Concacaf, joins Chairman Shilen Patel, Director Ethan Gobetz, and Executive Director Mark Miles on the board of West Bromwich Albion Football Club Limited.

As a Non-Executive Director, Jason will provide independent oversight and constructive feedback to the club’s board, contributing his extensive experience of English and international football to inform club strategy, planning and decision making.

Jason will not be involved in day-to-day operations at The Hawthorns and will assume this board position alongside his work with Concacaf, retaining board roles with the Jason Roberts Foundation, the Advisory Foundation in Support of Football for the Goals and the Global Institute of Sport. Jason will also continue to work closely with the United Nations Football for the Goals initiative.

In his role at Concacaf Jason leads on confederation-wide efforts in coaching education, club licencing, women’s football development and corporate social responsibility. This includes establishing the Concacaf Coaching Convention, which formalised coaching education standards across the region, and includes the recently launched Concacaf Pro Licence.

In 2007 he established the Jason Roberts Foundation, which invests in local communities to change outcomes for the most marginalised in the United Kingdom and Caribbean. Jason is the nephew of Albion legend Cyrille Regis and was awarded an MBE for services to sport and community in the 2010 New Year Honours.

As a player Jason scored 27 goals in 100 games for the Baggies during a four-year stint at The Hawthorns from 2000 until 2004. He went on to make a total of 221 Premier League appearances, including spells at Portsmouth, Wigan, Blackburn and Reading, before retiring in 2014.

Since retiring from professional football Roberts has gained corporate governance certification in 2014 and graduated with a UEFA Executive Masters in 2017. He has also served on the FIFA Players’ Status Committee and joins the board with more than two decades of corporate governance experience.

Jason said: “I am delighted to be joining the board of the club that is such a huge part of my family’s history.

“This is an important moment for the football club, and I am honoured to contribute to shaping its strategic direction for the future.

“Since retiring from playing, I have gained significant experience working at board level, and I now look forward to applying that experience in support of a club that holds deep personal meaning for me.”

Chairman Shilen Patel added: “Jason’s journey with the Albion has been a lifelong one, and it continues with him joining our board.

“He will lend his experience as a footballer, an executive, and as a person who has known this club across eras and generations.

“Jason’s enthusiasm to play a role in the club’s future has been clear from our first conversations, and I am excited for him to join us.”
