101 Questions with Sam Johnstone

Our sixth instalment of 101 Questions has seen Albion stopper Sam Johnstone take on a series of random questions.

The 'keeper joins Kieran GibbsRomaine SawyersMatty PhillipsDara O'Shea and Charlie Austin in picking 10 questions on a number of different topics.

So, let’s get started.

How are you Sam? Can you choose your 10 numbers please?

All good here thanks. My numbers will be 1, 6, 10, 19, 37, 40, 55, 76, 84, 99.

1 – Someone offers to cook you a three-course meal. You can have whatever you want for starter, main and dessert. What are you ordering?

For starters I’d have prawn cocktail, the main would be a tikka masala with garlic naan bread, and then for dessert a jam roly-poly with custard but not many places do it so usually it’s sticky toffee pudding - but I prefer jam roly-poly.

6 - Who did you make your Albion debut against and what do you remember about the game?

We played Bolton in the first game of the season and lost 2-1 so it wasn’t the best memory. I was excited and nervous before the game to play in front of a new set of staff, players and fans. But I didn’t have that much to do so I was gutted we lost.

10 - Favourite pair of football boots you’ve ever had and why are they special to you?

I wouldn’t say I have a favourite pair because they change so much but the pair I remember were the ones I wore for Preston in the Play-Off Final win against Swindon. It was special to wear them at Wembley and win with my hometown club.

19 - What makes Slaven Bilić such a good manager to play under?

It’s great playing under Slav. He’s so calm and gives us all confidence to go out and play to get the job done. Even when we had our tough spells he says what’s needed to be said and then it’s onto to the next training session, the next game and you can tell he’s managed at the top level.

37 - What’s your favourite city in the world and why?

Has to be Manchester. I’ve lived here for years and it’s a great city.

40 - Who’s Albion’s hardman?

Jake Livermore - he’s the kindest man ever until he has to fight for his team-mate during a game.

55 - A snake or a huge spider. Which one would scare you the most?

A snake would scare me more. Once it’s got hold of you, it’s game over.

76 - You can pick one of the following options. Gerrard, Zidane, Lampard, Pirlo, Vieira, Keane, Iniesta, Xavi. Which one are you picking and why?

Gerrard. His drive to get the team going, up and down the pitch and comes up with great goals as well. He had it all and could play in any team.

84 - Who’s your favourite football pundit and why?

Gary Neville’s a good pundit but since Micah Richards has come along I like listening to him at the moment. I like Carragher too, he’s honest and fair.

99 - Best concert/gig you’ve ever been to?

I won’t lie I went to watch Adele and she was really good. I also like the theatre and The Book of Mormon was the best I’ve seen.
