Albion Family thanked for record-breaking Foundation Day

The Albion Foundation has paid tribute to Baggies supporters for their “incredible” generosity after they helped raise a record total on Foundation Day.

The Albion family united for the annual celebration, coinciding with Saturday's Hawthorns encounter against Cardiff City, to support the Foundation in their push for a new minibus.

Bucket collections, raffles, a silent auction and generous fan donations brought in a fantastic £13,000 for the club’s official charity, with the final total still being calculated and expected to be significantly higher.

“I’m immensely proud,” said Albion Foundation Director Rob Lake. "The Club and Foundation came together brilliantly.

“The supporters, players and everyone connected to the Club worked so closely to raise a significant amount of money.”

The generosity of the Albion faithful has pushed the charity closer to reaching their goal sooner than expected.

Saturday also provided a platform for the Foundation to spread the message of the great work being done in the local community on a daily basis.

“The fans’ efforts on Saturday have been a massive help,” added Rob.

“It exceeded my expectations and we are in a position where we can try to get grants in place for further funding and so the new minibus could be with us sooner rather than later, which is fantastic.

“What’s pleasing is to see the awareness of the Foundation and what we do has grown, that is a big sea-change from previous years.

“The fan base seem to understand us more, they get us and they like what we do.”

With Albion matching the total raised on matchday, which saw the Baggies claim a 4-2 victory over the Bluebirds, the club’s commitment to the day was also a huge delight for Rob.

“For the Club to match us pound-for-pound on the day is brilliant but there’s also that buy-in from the organisation’s staff,” he said.

“The media team has been outstanding at helping us get the message out to the fans in the days building up to the game.

“The logistics and operations teams have helped with tickets and making sure the half-time powerchair challenge could happen. There was a real can-do attitude which has been a true step forward for us.

“I came away from Saturday feeling really proud and thankful for everyone who contributed on the day.

“It was only the second Foundation Day we have managed to get a victory, so that was also pleasing!”

From all at the Foundation, we would like to say a sincere thank you to each and every Albion and Cardiff fan who kindly donated to help the cause, your support is extremely valuable and hugely appreciated.
