Rodriguez ready for rivals on Saturday

Jay Rodriguez insists Albion are “right up” for the challenge of facing local rivals Aston Villa on Saturday.

The Baggies, who drew 2-2 with Dean Smith’s side back in December, will make the short four-mile journey across Handsworth to Villa Park for the first time since September, 2015.

Darren Moore’s men have been in fine form away from The Hawthorns, winning six of their last seven on the road in the Sky Bet Championship.

And Rodriguez, who scored the late leveller against Villa earlier in the campaign, is desperate for Albion to boost their automatic promotion hopes with victory in a game which carries “extra” spice.

He said: “The mood in camp is good. We’re focused on our plan against Villa.

“It’s going to be a difficult game because they’re a good side, but we know our own qualities.

“I think we need to be focused on that and have no other distractions.

“There’s a bit extra in this game and as players you want to play in the best games. Hopefully this will be a good one for us.

“We want the three points, but we know they won’t be given to us so we really need to be at it.

“To get three points at this stage of the season is vital.

“If we play to our strengths we know we can give them a good game.

“Both teams will be going full throttle wanting that win. We are right up for it.

“Hopefully the work we have been putting in in training this week will show in the game.

“We know that there will be a great atmosphere because we know how much it means to the fans. It’s a really big game.”
