Baggies get the better of Bradford

ALBION recorded their first league win of 2018 with a 2-1 victory at home to Bradford City Women in the FA Women's Premier League Northern Division on Sunday.

A first half double from Jennifer Kikomeko put Louis Sowe's side two-goals ahead at the break before a late strike from Abigail Lee gave the visitors hope, but it was not enough to salvage a point.

The Baggies came storming out of the blocks early on deservedly breaking the deadlock in the 10th minute when Finn set up Kikomeko to hit a stunning 30-yard volley which dipped over Bradford goalkeeper Natalie Saunders.

Gina Burton and Leanne Mitchell both missed chances to put Albion further ahead, before Kikomeko doubled the Baggies advantage latching onto a Laura Davies back heel to fire an 18-yard shot into the far corner.

After the break, Nicole Dale was twice denied by Bradford goalkeeper Saunders as Albion continued to search for a third goal.

At the other end Vanessa Kinnerley pulled off a fine save to push away an Ellie White effort before Lee slotted home for the visitors with just five minutes remaining to setup a tense finale. But Albion held on for a deserved three points to secure a fourth league win of the season.

ALBION: Kinnerley, Finn, George, Merritt, Finch, Burton (c), Mitchell (Murray 70), Fellows, Kikomeko, Davies (L.Price 81), Dale.

SUBS: Hull, Smith, L.Price, Murray, Buckmire.

Albion are next in action in the FA Birmingham County Cup Semi-Final at home to Coventry United Ladies on Thursday April 5 (ko 7.30pm).
