Huddersfield vs Albion match preview

ALBION travel to Huddersfield Town on Saturday (ko 3pm) looking to get their Premier League season back on track.

The fixture at the John Smith's Stadium will be the first between the sides in the Premier League - and the first in any competition since 2010.

The opposition

Huddersfield won promotion to the Premier League last season by winning the Championship play off final against Reading on penalties. The Terriers have since made a steady start to their campaign, having picked up 12 points from their first 10 games.

Manager David Wagner joined the club in November 2015 after leaving his role as Borussia Dortmund II manager earlier in the month.

After a lower mid-table finish in his first season, Wagner then guided Huddersfield to the top flight for the first time since the 1970s. He brought in the likes of Tom Ince, Aaron Mooy, Steve Mounie and Laurent Depoitre over the summer to strengthen his squad.

Last time out

The last game between the sides was a 2-0 win for the Baggies in the third round of the FA Cup back in January 2010 thanks to goals from Graham Dorrans and Chris Wood.

The most recent meeting in the league was a Division One match in 2001 that saw the teams draw 1-1 at The Hawthorns.

The gaffers

David Wagner on the game

“We are aware that West Brom are missing some key players but it is up to us to do our job.

“It is irrelevant who we collect points against - we just have to collect points consistently.

“Of course we have a bigger chance than Liverpool away but we still need to be at our best.”

Tony Pulis on Huddersfield

“It’s an unbelievable atmosphere. They are really backed by the supporters.

“I don’t know David that well but looking at what he has done he’s done really well.

“He’s done a fantastic job to get them promoted and the start that he’s had in the Premier League has been good."
