Leko nets PL2 Player of the Month award

"I'm very proud and happy," says Jonathan Leko

JONATHAN Leko has scooped the Premier League 2 Player of the Month award for December.

The Albion winger played three times last month for James Shan’s side, scoring against Brighton and Hove Albion on Monday, December 19.

That goal against the Seagulls came just two days after making his 11th senior Premier League appearance versus Manchester United at The Hawthorns.

Upon receiving the award, the 17-year-old said: "I'm very proud and happy.

"(In Premier League 2), you're playing with the best young players in Europe, that sets you up for the Premier League in my opinion.

"My goals for the rest of the season are to play more games in the Premier League, try to get more first-team appearances and stay in the team."

Leko was selected by a panel of the Premier League Football Development Department after PL2 managers had nominated the best individual performance from each of their opponents last month.

He fought off competition from Toni Martinez, Marcus Browne (both West Ham United), Shayon Harrison (Tottenham Hotspur) and Rushian Hepburn-Murphy (Aston Villa).

Congratulations Jonathan!
