THE Albion Foundation has formed a partnership with Age UK to deliver free walking football sessions to over 65 year-olds.
Held at The Wesley Community Centre, the sport has proved beneficial both physically and mentally for the over-65s in attendance.
Walter Phillips revealed that the game was helping him to relieve his anxiety.
"When I retired I found it a bit of an ordeal at first, (it was hard to) find things to do. It was an ideal thing to do to keep fit and meet new people and meet new friends.
"I really look forward to it and I never miss a session. When I am here, I am totally engrossed in the game. I do suffer a little bit from anxiety and it is a great way to relieve the anxiety," said Walter.
"When I am playing, I am that engrossed in the game, I don't think of anything else. I absolutely love it."
The group meet up every Monday at 10:30am, and welcome new members to attend their sessions, which are totally free.
"It's kept me active. I am slightly in advancing years now," said Steve McGlone.
"I have aches and pains all over the place, but on a Monday, I look forward to taking part in the football. I get a lot of pleasure from it."
