Pardew on ‘deserved’ Arsenal draw

ALAN Pardew was adamant Albion deserved to come away with a point from their New Year’s Eve clash with Arsenal at The Hawthorns.

Jay Rodriguez’s 89-minute penalty rescued a share of the spoils after Alexis Sanchez’s late free-kick had deflected in off James McClean.

The Baggies boss said his side gave everything and insisted he saw some very good signs.

“We deserved the draw today,” said Pardew.

“The penalty decision is perhaps tough on Arsenal, but if it is the other way round we would moaning.

“We gave everything out on the pitch and went toe-to-toe with Arsenal and tried to take them on.

“We have given our fans hope coming back from 1-0 down with six minutes to go. Let’s hope that is a sign of what’s to come.

“The group have shown that they can handle the pressure. There was big pressure on us today.

“It’s also a big goal for Jay because he will be such an important player for us and that could give him a big boost.

“I’ve seen some good signs today.”
