Pulis eyes Deportivo return for quintet

TONY Pulis hopes to have a number of senior players back available for selection at Deportivo La Coruna on Saturday (ko 8.30pm CEST).

Craig Dawson, James McClean, Matt Phillips and Jake Livermore were not risked on Tuesday night at Port Vale after picking up minor knocks.

Salomon Rondon was rested and also missed the 1-1 draw at Vale Park.

James Morrison and Gareth McAuley will be absent from the trip to northern Spain at the weekend, with the duo continuing rehab ahead of the start of the Premier League campaign next Saturday.

“We are hoping that everyone will be fine for the Deportivo game on Saturday, apart from James Morrison and Gareth McAuley,” said Pulis.

“I wanted to give Salomon a rest. I thought he did well at Bristol Rovers and he’s done some extra work on the training ground.

“I wanted to give Hal around 75 minutes at Port Vale.

“Craig Dawson had a little niggle and we didn’t want to take a chance with it.

“They are all little knocks and we won’t risk anything.”

He added: “We want a certain number of minutes for the senior professionals in pre-season.

“After the Deportivo match the players will be on the mark in the respect of time that we want in games.”
