Alcatraz can't hold 'Blind Dave'

Get behind our inspirational fund-raiser

'BLIND Dave' Heeley, the Baggies' fund-raiser extrordinaire, is tackling another Herculean task in aid of his favourite charity, the Albion Foundation.

While the world of football homes in on the Euros, spare a thought for the celebrated marathon man who will begin the fabled Alcatraz Challenge on Sunday.

'Blind Dave' has in the past crossed the Sahara and even completed seven marathons in seven days across seven continents all to raise money for good causes.

But he has arrived in San Fransisco to meet head-on another daunting challenge - to swim from the famous American island prison before embarking on an 18-mile cycle - up and down those famous hills featured in so many movies - before an eight mile run to the finishing line.

"It's going to be one of the toughest things we have ever attempted," says Baggies devotee Dave, whose regular companion Tony Ellis (pictured above) will be alongside to guide him.

"To finish will be simply unbelievable but try we will. Once again the charity is our very own Albion Foundation so I am just hoping the very thought of what this could bring for those kids keeps us going."

Dave has already reached his £2,500 target but we think the Baggies fans can help swell that total some more in recognition of this extraordinary man.

Good Luck Dave - from everyone at the Club.
