Family thank Albion fans for support

Supporter taken ill on Saturday sadly passes away

THE family of the Albion supporter who collapsed and later passed away in hospital have thanked the Baggies family for their support and condolences this week.

Long-standing Albion fan Eric Murray, 83, had been taken ill at his West Stand seat shortly before kick-off against Watford on Saturday.

Oldbury-born Eric, a retired sales rep and well known part-time musician, had been a huge Baggies devotee since the 1940s.

His son Steven said today: “We would like to thank everyone who has offered their condolences and support. It is comforting so many Albion fans were thinking of dad at this time.

“He received tremendous care on Saturday when he was looked after with dignity and concern.

“He loved his football and especially loved the great Ronnie Allen team of the 1950s – and our family is all Albion as a result. We’ve been touched by the support from everyone.”

The Club would like to take this opportunity to offer its own condolences to Eric’s widow, Margaret, Steven and sister Joanne and 10 grandchildren.

Eric’s funeral will be held at Powke Lane Crematorium on December 20.
