England Powerchair Team target Euro success
All eyes this summer are on the senior England squad in Brazil as they look to claim glory but the England Powerchair Football Team are also competing in the EPFA Nations Cup (European Championships) in Limerick, Ireland.
The competition will see the top five teams qualify for their own World Cup in Rio de Janeiro next year.
Having had another strong season within the WFA National League, Sporting Club Albion (SCA) are very pleased to announce that four players in the eight-man squad are from the club.
Over the past few seasons SCA have achieved great success and the quartet selected fully deserve their international recognition.
SCA captain Chris Gordon has been named vice-captain and is joined by David Lewis, Marcus Harrison and Daniel Kay.
Lewis said: “Being named in the training camps has been a massive achievement and a lifetime ambition of mine but actually playing in front of a large crowd and entering the pitch to the national anthem is going to be immense.”
Harrison added: “Having only joined SCA a year ago from Bolton, the club have allowed me to develop my game enough to be able to achieve this call-up.
“I honestly can’t wait to play in my first international game.”
The tournament fixtures have yet to be announced but during the course of the competition the squad will play other strong Powerchair nations such as France, Belgium, Ireland, Switzerland and Denmark.
Joining the Baggies players in Ireland will be SCA and Albion Foundation Disability Development Officer Adam Crowle as he leads the squad as Team Logistics Manager as well as Colin Gordon, who will carry his Head Coach role forward from SCA into the England set-up.
All of the players and staff will be fully supported by everyone at SCA and the Albion Foundation and we wish them the best of luck for the tournament.
