Goalkeeper posed to start against Costa Rica (5pm kick-off)
BEN Foster is set to make history this evening as he becomes the first Albion player to represent England at the World Cup in 44 years.
The Baggies stopper has been named to start in the Three Lions’ final Group D encounter against Costa Rica as they wrap up their Brazil 2014 campaign in Belo Horizonte (5pm kick-off).
England cannot progress to the knockout stages having lost both of their previous matches and manager Roy Hodgson has taken the opportunity to make nine changes, naming his starting XI in advance.
Foster comes in for Joe Hart between the sticks and will pull on an England shirt at a World Cup for the first time since Baggies legend Jeff Astle in 1970.
The striker stepped off the bench against Brazil before starting against Czechoslovakia in the group stages of the tournament in Mexico.
And Foster is due to replicate that feat when he starts against already-qualified Costa Rica, who only need a draw to guarantee top spot.
It is set to be the 31-year-old’s eighth England cap in total and second this summer having completed the 2-2 pre-tournament warm-up draw against Ecuador in Miami.
It will be his third international appearance since joining Albion having also stepped off the bench at half-time in a 1-1 draw against the Republic of Ireland in May 2013.
