Keeper hoping to get better of England colleagues at St Mary's
BEN Foster admits he faces a tough task at Southampton tomorrow (ko 3pm) stopping the men he could be on the plane to Brazil with for this summer’s World Cup.
The England goalkeeper has put his Albion team-mates on red alert against the Saints’ attacking trio of Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana and Jay Rodriguez after being impressed by what he has seen from them for club and country this term.
But he hopes it is him rather than the hosts impressing Three Lions boss Roy Hodgson in the St Mary’s Stadium encounter.
“Fair play to them,” said the Baggies No.1.
“They’ve done incredibly well and I think they’ve deserved it.
“It was good of Roy [Hodgson] to give Rickie Lambert a chance.
“Previous managers have been very reluctant to give older players caps.
“But whenever Rickie Lambert has come in he has done the job.
“It’s all about taking your chances and the lads from Southampton have done that.
“Whenever they’ve come in they haven’t disappointed and have carried their form on throughout the season.
“Roy’s big on picking players on form and the Southampton lads deserve their chance.
“It’s not just those three that pose a threat for Southampton, they have a lot of quality in the team.
“The way they play is very high tempo, they’re always working and shutting you down.
“They don’t give you a minute’s breath.
“But we know what we’re going to come up against and I’m sure we’ll be fully prepared for it.”
