Defender wants complete performances from here on in
JONAS Olsson has called on Albion to fire on all cylinders from the first whistle to the last over their remaining four matches of the Barclays Premier League season.
The Baggies were 2-0 down with just ten minutes on the clock at the Etihad Stadium on Monday night, handing them an uphill battle in their bid to collect any kind of reward.
Title-chasing Manchester City eventually ran out 3-1 winners and centre-back Olsson knows Albion must put together complete displays in their bid to put distance between themselves and the relegation zone.
“We felt we put down a good performance apart from the first 10 or 15 minutes. We played all right and that has been the pattern for the last five or six weeks,” he said.
“We have had good performances but not throughout 90 minutes and that’s what we need to do in these last four games.
“We need to put down performances from the first minute to the last minute and we will be all right.”
Olsson is fully aware of the importance of Saturday’s home clash against West Ham (ko 3pm).
Albion go into The Hawthorns encounter three points and a healthy goal difference clear of the drop zone, with a game in hand over some of their relegation rivals.
Victory over the Hammers at such a crucial stage of the campaign would represent a big step towards Premier League survival.
Head coach Pepe Mel has already likened the match to a cup final and Olsson, 31, also knows how significant Saturday could prove to be.
“We went to City with the intention and belief of getting something,” he said.
“When you start thinking about every point being a bonus, when you go to City or wherever you go, then with that mindset you’ve already lost the game before you go on the pitch.
“We approached it as a tough task but we went in with the belief of getting something and if we had performed like we are capable of doing over 90 minutes we would have had a chance.
“But unfortunately we only put that performance down over 75 minutes and that’s not enough, especially not at the Etihad.
“With that said, there are games that are more likely to be won, of course, and Saturday is going to be a massive game.
“We just have to forget about the City game straight away and focus all our energy on Saturday because that’s going to be massive.”
