And right-back is pleased after completing 120 minutes
STEVEN Reid believes Craig Dawson should be delighted with his display in last night's Capital One Cup clash with Arsenal - and urged the young centre-back not to dwell on his penalty shoot-out miss.
The 23-year-old defender impressed throughout the third-round tie - including a breathtaking last-ditch tackle on Nicklas Bendtner during extra-time.
And Reid, who skippered the Baggies in his first appearance this season following injury, insists it is important the former England Under-21s international focuses on the positives.
"I told him what a fantastic tackle it was after the game," said Reid.
"He's going to be disappointed that he missed the penalty but on the whole he was superb.
"He's unlucky that he has Gareth McAuley and Jonas Olsson ahead of him.
"They're at the top of their game and they have a great partnership - but he's not far behind.
"With performances like last night, he's got a lot of things to be happy with.
"That tackle was superb.
"Bendtner looked in all the way but it was a great recovery from Daws.
"He should be really pleased with his performance."
Reid is delighted to have got 120 minutes under his belt - after fully recovering from a calf problem he picked up during pre-season.
“It was my first game back and I'm pretty tired," added Reid.
"I was going to say it's my first 90 minutes but it's my first 120 minutes of the season.
"I came through it and though I was a bit tired towards the end of the 90 I found a little bit extra for extra-time.
"I'm happy to have come through the game.
"Hopefully I can stay fit and start pushing to get into the Premier League first team.
"Billy Jones has been superb this season.
"I need to be ready when my chance comes."
