Ridgewell: We've come a long way

Baggies closing in on equalling record

LIAM Ridgewell believes Albion’s recent performances show they are continuing to improve under Steve Clarke’s stewardship.

The Baggies are now just one away from equalling their 2010/11 record six-game unbeaten run in the Barclays Premier League thanks to Saturday's goalless draw at Stoke.

And Ridgewell insists his Hawthorns team-mates will collect more points than they drop this season if they display the same resilience on show at the Britannia Stadium.

“It shows how far we’ve come that we’re expecting to win almost every game,” said Ridgewell.

“We had a slow start to the season.

“Now we’ve gone five games unbeaten, which is a step in the right direction - and good for us.

‘We’re resilient and we know what we’re doing.

“We’re the same at home.

“With a bit of luck, hopefully, we can take that into our home form and pick up points.

“Games like Saturday show how far we’ve come.

“We’re a very good team.

“If we keep on playing like we did at Stoke then we’ll pick up more points than we lose.”

The left-back feels aggrieved the Baggies were not awarded a second-half penalty when Youssouf Mulumbu was felled by Charlie Adam inside the area.

“I was far away from the penalty appeal,” added Ridgewell.

“But Youssouf’s boot flew off ten yards from him.

“It’s an interesting one.

‘His boot’s come off, someone’s boot doesn’t just come off, you’re not running along and it flies off.

“Everyone will see it, it’s one of those where sometimes you get it and sometimes you don’t.”
