Goalkeeper commits his future to the Baggies
LUKE Daniels has today penned a new two-year Albion deal to keep him at The Hawthorns until June 2015.It is another boost for Albion’s goalkeeper department after Boaz Myhill signed a two-year deal, plus a further year’s option in the club’s favour earlier this month.
The 25-year-old goalkeeper has provided able back-up to Ben Foster and Myhill this term, making the Baggies’ Barclays Premier League bench 11 times.
In previous seasons he has clocked up more than a century of first-team appearances in loan spells at Southend, Bristol Rovers, Rochdale, Charlton, Tranmere, Shrewsbury and Motherwell.
Sporting & Technical Director (Designate) Richard Garlick said: “I’m delighted Luke has agreed to sign a new deal.
“He has shown great loyalty to the club since he joined our Academy as a youngster and has developed into a very promising goalkeeper.
“He is an important part of what has become a strong goalkeeper department at the club and he continues to progress well under the guidance of Dean Kiely.”
Daniels, who sealed his first professional contract in July 2006, joined the Baggies in 2004 after being released by Manchester United.
He has yet to make his senior debut for Albion but had a major impact in spells at Tranmere and Shrewsbury.
In 2009/10 he played 37 League One games for Rovers and helped them stave off relegation.
The campaign before that he made 41 League Two starts for the Shrews as they reached the play-off final against Gillingham.
He produced an outstanding display at Wembley before losing cruelly 1-0 to a last-minute Simeon Jackson goal.
In total, Daniels has made 116 career appearances.
