Long happy to be Rom's foil

Ireland ace enjoying fledgling strike partnership with Belgian

SHANE Long is enjoying the way his fledgling partnership with Romelu Lukaku is shaping up.

The duo started a Barclays Premier League game together for only the third time in Saturday’s 2-0 win over Sunderland, with Lukaku grabbing both goals to take his season's tally to 12.

And Long is happy to be the foil for the on-loan Chelsea powerhouse while he remains at The Hawthorns.

“Rom is relishing the challenge up here and it is good to play alongside him,” said the Ireland international, who limped off in the 66th minute against the Black Cats with an ankle injury.

“It is enjoyable up front.

“I think he likes playing up front with the second man to play off and create space for him.

“When he gets a bit of space, he is willing to take it."

He added: “I think he likes it here, and he likes playing for the head coach.

“He likes the lads, he finds it fun coming to training every day, and he seems happy here.

“Hopefully we can get him back next season and keep him going the way he is going.”
