Stopper says second Hull goal could have cost Baggies
BEN Foster is delighted to have played a crucial role in this afternoon’s 1-1 draw with Hull at The Hawthorns.
The 30-year-old keeper made a fine double save on 67 to deny Tom Huddlestone and Ahmed Elmohamady – keeping Albion in the game in the process.
And Foster, who returned after nearly four months out with a foot injury, says his team-mates may have struggled to have comeback from two goals behind – but insists, they were good value for at least a point.
“I was just happy to help out,” said Foster.
“It might have been a different game and it would have been quite unfair if that had have gone in.
“We were 1-0 down and if they’d have scored then it would have probably been game over.
“I didn’t have a lot else to do and it will help boost my confidence.
“It was nice that after that we went up the other end of the pitch and got one ourselves.
“Without a doubt we deserved the draw.
“I thought we were good value for the point.
“Hull made things quite difficult.
“They’re very good at sitting in and soaking up the pressure.
“We were the ones asking all the questions.”
Foster admits his return to the starting XI is ‘tough’ on Boaz Myhill – but insists Albion’s goalkeepers are a close-knit group.
“It was really nice to get back in,” he added.
“It was a bit of a surprise because Boaz has done very well.
“It’s tough on him.
“He’s a class goalkeeper.
“We’re quite a tight unit and we all get behind each other.
“I know he was behind me today like I’ve been behind him over the past three or four months.
“But it was nice to get back in and help the team out.”
