But Reid set to miss out again after suffering further injury blow
BEN Foster has not ruled out a return to action against Norwich on Saturday (ko 3pm) – but Steven Reid is set to miss his second successive game after a further injury blow.Baggies No.1 Foster is hoping to make his long-awaited comeback from what ultimately proved to be a two-part double-hernia operation that forced him to sit out the last seven games.
Reid, who only returned from a hamstring problem at the start of the month, missed Sunday’s goalless draw with a badly bruised shin he sustained in the previous game at Arsenal – and Saturday’s Hawthorns encounter will come too soon for him.
But Foster is back in training and could challenge Boaz Myhill for the gloves against the in-form Canaries.
“I played in the Southampton game, when we won 2-0, and I couldn’t kick with my left foot because every time I kicked the ball there was a nerve getting pressed underneath my hernia, which was quite painful,” said the former Manchester United goalkeeper.
“I had to kick with my right foot because I had no pain on my right side.
“I got away with it because I could do all of the goalkeeping stuff fine, but as soon as I tried to kick a ball it was jumping out of your skin time!
“I was never coming off, because it was only kicking with my left foot that I couldn’t do.
“I’ve had groin issues recently but they think all of that was connected to the hernia, so hopefully this will solve all of that.
“It was really a double-hernia operation.
“I had one side operated on and that was all fine.
“I got back into training and pretty much straight away it was apparent the other side needed doing.
“So it’s been a whole lot longer than I thought it was going to be but hopefully it’s all sorted now and we can crack on.
“I started training properly yesterday so we will see how training goes this week and take it from there.
“I trained fine yesterday. I felt absolutely fine.
“The team has been doing well, Boaz has been doing great, so we will just see how it goes.”
