Albion players celebrate a goal while wearing home colours

Next up for the Baggies in the Sky Bet Championship is a trip to play-off rivals Watford on Monday night (ko 8pm).

Both teams were denied three points in their most recent fixtures, with Albion conceding a late equaliser at home to Blackburn and the Hornets shipping an injury-time leveller at leaders Burnley.

Monday's fixture will see West Bromwich Albion reunited with former boss Slaven Bilic, who helped guide the club to Premier League promotion by finishing second in 2019/20.

Bilic has been in charge at Vicarage Road since September and has Watford fighting for a spot in the top six.

Albion will visit Vicarage Road for the first time since March 2018 on Monday night

Our opponents

There'll be a familiar face in the opposition dugout on Monday night at Vicarage Road.

Slaven Bilic, who won promotion to the Premier League with Albion in 2019/20, is tasked with repeating the same trick at Watford this term.

The Croatian was appointed in late September after Rob Edwards was dismissed and he's kept the Hornets in play-off contention during his time in Hertfordshire.

They've stuttered recently though, heading into the clash with the Baggies having drawn three on the bounce and without a win in their last five league games.

Watford have plenty of individual quality within their squad and they'll still fancy their chances of making an immediate return to the top flight via the play-off route.

Their home form is mixed, winning one, losing one and drawing three of their last five games at the Vic. The Hornets have earned seven victories from their 15 matches in front of their own supporters so far this campaign, drawing four and losing four.

Slaven Bilic will come up against his former club on Monday

From the Albion Archive

Albion secured a 3-0 win over the Hornets at Vicarage Road in the Championship in November 2007.

Ishmael Miller, Kevin Phillips and Martin Albrechtsen all found the net on a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon for the Baggies.

Watch the highlights below.

One for the stattos

The Baggies will be hoping to end Watford's four-game unbeaten run against them at Vicarage Road on Monday.

Two of the last four meetings at the home of the Hornets have been won by Watford, with the other two ending in draws.

Albion have failed to score in all of their last three visits, with their last triumph in Hertfordshire coming back November 2007.

Colours for the road

The Baggies will wear their home kit on Monday night.

The last time Albion wore navy blue-and-white stripes on the road was at Norwich City in September, a contest which finished 1-1.

An image of Conor Townsend scoring against Watford

Albion were beaten 3-2 by Watford in a pulsating Sky Bet Championship clash on Monday night.

The Hornets led at half-time thanks to Ken Sema’s close-ranger, yet Conor Townsend quickly equalised shortly into the second period.

Ismaila Sarr fired Watford ahead before Jed Wallace looked to have earned the Baggies a draw in a crazy, albeit entertaining, spell.

It wasn’t to be though, and Sema stole the points to move Watford up to fifth in the table and keep Carlos Corberán’s men 10th.

The boss named an unchanged team for the trip to Hertfordshire, sticking with the same XI and bench from the midweek draw against Blackburn Rovers.

They went behind midway through the first half when Sema struck home a rebound, the Watford player reacting quickest to convert a rebound after Keinan Davis’ initial shot was saved.

The hosts pressed for a second but found Josh Griffiths in their way when Keinan Davis’ low finish threatened to double their advantage.

Corberán made two changes at half-time, replacing Nathaniel Chalobah and Marc Albrighton with Jayson Molumby and Grady Diangana.

The switches seemed to inject some life into the visitors, Darnell Furlong and Brandon Thomas-Asante sending efforts over, and John Swift forcing a great save from Daniel Bachmann, in their quest for a leveller.

And they soon found the equaliser they deserved – Swift’s corner causing chaos and, eventually, Townsend brilliantly sending a deft volley home.

In a crazy spell straight after the goal, Watford almost immediately hit back through Sarr, the attacker smacking the post via a low drive.

Other than that, it was actually Albion who looked likelier to net again as Bachmann superbly saved Thomas-Asante’s diversion and Okay Yokuslu nodded narrowly off-target.

But in another twist Watford re-took the lead on 66 minutes, the ball falling fortuitously at the feet of Sarr, and the attacker making no mistake.

Albion then hit back once more – the home team getting caught playing out from a goal-kick, substitute Molumby winning possession and Wallace making it 2-2.

The game showed no signs of slowing down, Sarr seeing one disallowed for offside as the end-to-end clash continued, and it was now a matter of which club could find a winner.

Unfortunately Watford were the team to earn the victory, Sema’s strike deflecting off Erik Pieters and past Griffiths late on and claim them the points.

Albion Griffiths, Furlong, O’Shea, Pieters, Townsend; Yokuslu, Chalobah (Molumby 45); Swift (Grant 80), Wallace, Albrighton (Diangana 45); Thomas-Asante (Dike 62).

Substitutes: Button, Ajayi, Reach.
