The Swansea.com Stadium is where the Baggies play Swansea on Monday

West Bromwich Albion travel to Swansea City on bank holiday Monday afternoon needing three points to keep their Sky Bet Championship Play-Off hopes alive (ko 3pm).

The Baggies sit two points off the top-six pace heading into the final match of the season, knowing only a victory over the Swans and a favourable set of results elsewhere in the division would be enough to see them sneak into the Play-Off positions.

Swansea's chances of earning a shot at promotion were ended last weekend as they could only draw 1-1 at Hull City, but Russell Martin's men have been in fantastic form of late, winning six of their last eight games and drawing the other two.

There were five goals scored when the two teams met back on the first day of October at The Hawthorns, with the visitors coming away victorious courtesy of a 3-2 scoreline.

Swansea City are statistically the most in-form team in the Sky Bet Championship right now and boast more points won in their last five games than any other side in the division (13).

The Swans are enjoying an eight-match unbeaten run, winning six matches and drawing the other two.

Russell Martin's team were surging towards Play-Off contention, however last weekend's draw at Hull City put an end to their chances, with Monday's hosts sat five points off sixth in 10th position.

Swansea are very easy on the eye and love to keep possession of the ball. Their tally of 35 goals scored in front of their own supporters this season is the fifth-best in the second tier.

Martin, a former Scotland international defender, was appointed in August 2021 and will manage his 99th Swansea game against the Albion. He has a record of 35 victories, 27 draws and 36 defeats as the Swans' boss.

From the Albion Archive

The Baggies secured three precious Premier League points at Swansea City in March 2014.

Roland Lamah gave the hosts a very, very early lead, but Albion hit back twice in the second 45 to earn a crucial victory.

Stephane Sessegnon and Youssouf Mulumbu were the heroes that particular afternoon.

You can watch the highlights below.

One for the stattos

Only three of the last 24 meetings between the Baggies and Swansea have ended level.

The last time there was a draw between the two teams was the final game before COVID-19 brought about a halt to football and life in general - a goalless encounter in March 2020 in South Wales.

It's been over three years since the last draw between Swansea and West Bromwich Albion

Colours for the road

An image of Okay Yokuslu scoring against Swansea

Albion’s 2022/23 Sky Bet Championship campaign was brought to an end after a 3-2 defeat at Swansea City on Monday.

Carlos Corberán’s men twice took the lead via Okay Yokuslu and Semi Ajayi strikes, yet the Swans were able to fight back each time thanks to Luke Cundle and Olivier Ntcham goals.

And Joel Piroe’s stoppage time free-kick stole the points in South Wales, giving Russell Martin’s hosts the final day victory.

Carlos Corberán named an unchanged XI for the trip across the border, sticking with the same team that beat Norwich City last weekend.

And his side made a brilliant start, taking the lead inside 13 minutes. Excellent pressing won possession deep in the Swansea half and gave John Swift the chance to, unselfishly, set-up Yokuslu – who made no mistake.

There was a fleeting moment where results elsewhere meant Albion were inside the top six, but Swansea’s 26th-minute equaliser through Cundle dampened celebrations in a briefly jubilant away end.

The Baggies had opportunities to edge back in front ahead of half-time despite Swansea’s dominance with the ball, Karlan Grant and Brandon Thomas-Asante forcing saves from Andy Fisher. Ultimately, though, it was level at the break.

Swansea began the second period well and almost scored twice, Jamie Paterson and Joel Piroe curling efforts narrowly wide.

Instead, Albion netted next. Pinball in the box eventually saw it fall to Ajayi, and the defender hammered one home for the lead and another speckle of hope.

But, once again, the Swans found an equaliser to frustrate Corberán’s visitors - Ntcham let fly from the edge of the area and the ball deflected into the bottom corner past a helpless Alex Palmer.

There were openings for Albion, Thomas-Asante and Swift going close on separate occasions and Conor Townsend hitting a free-kick over.

However, the final goal went Swansea’s way when Piroe grabbed the winner deep in added time.

The result means Albion finish ninth in the Championship table.
