We’ll use this as motivation, says Semi

Semi Ajayi hopes the Albion squad will use their first defeat of the season as motivation to bounce back against Cardiff at The Hawthorns this weekend.

The central defender admitted the Baggies were unfortunate not to take something from Leeds after a deflected Ezgjan Alioski goal proved to be the difference despite a dominating second-half showing from Slaven Bilić’s men.

But he believes that ‘losing feeling’ will drive the squad to go into their final fixture before the October international break with the aim of recapturing the highs they experienced at QPR last Saturday.

“Obviously it’s bitterly disappointing that we’ve not managed to keep the unbeaten run going and come away with something. I think our performance definitely deserved it - especially in the second half,” said Semi.

“But listen, we’ve got to pick ourselves up now and get ready for Cardiff which is another big game on Saturday.

“I thought it was a very good game. They probably shaded the first half but in the second half we definitely dominated and we had our chances, so did they.

“Both teams will have felt hard done by if they didn't come away with anything, but unfortunately that’s us and we just need to go again.

“It’s a good marker to see how far we’ve come and where we’re at in the season.

“To come to a team who are one of the favourites in this league, we more than held our own if not dominated long spells of the game.

“It shows the good work that we’re doing and gives us confidence to continue the work that we’ve been doing. Hopefully that will leave us where we want to be at the end of the season.

“It will be very easy to pick ourselves up again. We want to put it right, the fact that we’ve been beaten - no-one likes it, no-one wants to feel that feeling again.

“That’s the motivation now, to go into Saturday and make sure we don’t have this feeling. We want the winning feeling back. That’s the challenge.”
