Sawyers: We’ve set the standard

Romaine Sawyers believes Albion’s impressive start to the season has given them the perfect platform to build on for the remainder of the campaign.

The Baggies sit at the summit of the Sky Bet Championship table after 11 games, level on points with Nottingham Forest, having suffered just one defeat so far.

Romaine, who scored his first goal for his boyhood club during Saturday’s 4-2 success over Cardiff City, has played a prominent role in Slaven Bilić’s side – starting all 11 league matches.

The midfielder says the standard has now been set and it’s up to Albion to keep pushing forward when they return to action following the conclusion of the October international break.

He said: “We know there’s still a long way to go and there are twists and turns in this division every single week, but we’re happy with our start.

“There’s been some great results and performances already.

“After 11 games, if someone had told us we would be in the position we find ourselves in now, we definitely would have taken it.

“It’s a great foundation to build on for the rest of the season.

“We’ve set the standard all season.

“The pinnacle was the win at QPR I think, as well as the first 60 minutes of the game against Cardiff at The Hawthorns.

“We’ve got to keep pushing now and to continue showing what we can do in this league.”
