O’Shea helps Ireland to Italy clean sheet

Dara O’Shea helped Republic of Ireland’s Under-21 side to an impressive goalless draw with Italy in UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifying on Thursday night.

The Baggies youngster completed 90 minutes at Tallaght Stadium in front of a record Irish Under-21 crowd of 7,231.

The stalemate keeps the Boys in Green top of Group 1, with O’Shea’s nation yet to suffer a defeat in qualifying after four games.

The Republic of Ireland travel to Iceland on Tuesday for their fifth group fixture.

Ali Al-Habsi was an unused substitute for Oman as they recorded a comfortable 3-0 win over Afghanistan in Asian World Cup qualifying.

Oman are next in action on Tuesday evening when they travel to Qatar for another qualifier.

Elsewhere, Nathan Ferguson remained on the bench as England’s Under-20 side drew 2-2 with Italy in Parma.

Jonathan Leko, on loan at Charlton Athletic, came on for the final 14 minutes at the Ennio Tardini Stadium.
