Matthew Clewley story

A Tipton schoolchild has gone from the brink of school expulsion and being sent to the pupil referral unit to an award winner, thanks to support from The Albion Foundation.

With help from the charity's Education Department, Matthew Clewley has blossomed and found a place at a specialist school that better suited his needs.

Before Matthew was taken under the charity's wing, he was struggling to socialise in and out of school, and his parents were beginning to worry for his future.

His mother, Susan Clewley, praised the Foundation for all the work it has done with her son.

“It has been a godsend. The people that have helped us, and just to know that he’s safe here and that he enjoys it,” said Susan.

“I just want to say thank you to the Foundation because you gave us our son back.

“I don’t think the transition from mainstream to specialist school would have gone so well without you,” she said.

At the Foundation’s Education Awards for the 2018/19 academic year, the year four pupil won the Primary Time-Out award for his dedication and focus whilst being part of the scheme.
