Burton braced for upbeat finale against Villa

Deon Burton is expecting a high-tempo clash at the Banks’s Stadium when Albion’s Premier League 2 side take on Aston Villa in their final league game of the season on Monday evening (ko 7pm).

The young Baggies are currently ninth in the Premier League 2 Division Two table, but could finish the season in eighth if they are to win against Villa.

Albion come into the game after an impressive 1-1 draw against title-chasing Southampton.

And Deon is anticipating a lively final encounter of the season against rivals Aston Villa.

“The lads are in good spirit,” said Burton.

“They have trained well over the last week in preparation for the match against Villa. We’re all wanting to have a good end to the season with it being our last match.

“Aston Villa have a young squad - it’s a bit like ours but bigger. They like to play on the front foot and try to play a more pressing game. I think it will be a good high tempo game.

“Last week against Southampton we started slow again and didn’t really deal with the physicality of some of their players well.

“But once again we were much better in the second half, and should have gone on to win the game in my opinion - and that’s against a team that are fighting for top spot in the league.”
