THE Daily Herald reported that nine clubs had threatened to resign from the Football League and create a “breakaway Super League” as a reaction to the ongoing crisis over the abolition of the maximum wage.

Club chairmen were due to meet on 9 December to further discuss the crisis, the Herald further reporting that, “The Club behind the move is believed to be West Bromwich Albion, who have stood out against both the League Cup and television”.
