Phillips fires Scotland to victory

MATT Phillips’ maiden strike for Scotland fired them to a 1-0 victory over Hungary in Budapest.

The Baggies winger confidently stroked the ball into the bottom corner from inside the penalty area just three minutes after the break.

Phillips completed 84 minutes at the Groupama Arena before being replaced by Oliver McBurnie.

There were also victories for Northern Ireland and Cameroon in the latest batch of international fixtures.

Jonny Evans played 68 minutes, and Gareth McAuley the full 90, as Michael O'Neill's side struck late to beat South Korea 2-1 at Windsor Park.

Allan Nyom played the second half of his nation's 3-1 victory in Kuwait.

Elsewhere, Ali Gabr played the whole game as Egypt fell to a narrow 1-0 defeat against Greece in Zurich.

Nikolaos Karelis scored the only goal, with Albion defender Ahmed Hegazi watching on from the bench.

Grzegorz Krychowiak was unused as Poland recorded a 3-2 win over South Korea.

Finally, Jake Livermore was an unused substitute for England who drew 1-1 with Italy at Wembley.

Jamie Vardy opened the scoring but Lorenzo Insigne equalised late on from the spot.
