Moore: Result is icing on the cake

DARREN Moore said the scoreline was just the “icing on the cake” as his squad gained a valuable work-out at Swindon Town on a sweltering Saturday afternoon in Wiltshire.

The Baggies recorded a 3-1 victory thanks to goals from Jay Rodriguez, Kyle Edwards and Kyle Jameson in a friendly which was split into two one-hour halves.

Moore was delighted to give 22 players match action, with several gaining 60-75 minutes under their belts.

He said: “It was a great work-out.

“We wanted to get the group of players more time on the pitch and a lot of them got between 60-75 minutes in.

“I felt like the players needed a bigger hit than just having 45 minutes and then having to change it.

“I thank Phil Brown and Swindon’s staff for providing us with this fixture and I hope that it has proved beneficial for both teams.

“Swindon were very good and it was a perfect work-out coming off the back of our training camp in Scotland.

“It’s not all about results in pre-season. It’s about getting minutes into players before the start of the season.

“The scoreline is the icing on the cake.

“You have an opportunity to try things and test different shapes and this is what pre-season is for.

“I’m really pleased with how things are shaping up and we now move on.”
