On this day in 1966...

23 December 2018

GRAHAM Lovett was seriously injured in a terrible car cash on the M1 when his car went down an embankment, leaving him trapped for several hours before he was discovered and taken to hospital.

He didn’t return to the first team until Boxing Day in 1967 when he made an appearance as substitute in the 3-2 win over Manchester City, though in truth, he was lucky ever to play again given the severity of his injuries.

Nevertheless, in May 1968, he played a key role as Albion beat Everton at Wembley to carry off the FA Cup.
