GEORGE “Cocky” Shaw made his first appearance in Albion colours two days after signing from Huddersfield Town.

He made his debut at Bramall Lane as the Baggies were beaten 2-1 by Sheffield United, George James scoring for Albion.

Shaw played in two FA Cup finals, in 1931 and 1935, and played 425 games all told for the club, scoring 11 goals.

He had previously been involved in Huddersfield’s three consecutive League winning seasons from 1923/24 onwards, though only as a bit part player, making 24 appearances over the three campaigns.
